Construction Management experts - Engr. Jesus ‘Jess’ Matias, PMP and Engr. Jommel Macabagdal, PMP - presented in front of a jam-packed audience last April 3, 2025. Ms. Tina Rodriguez who is the Executive Committee Lead for Programs & Events welcomed everyone. There was a wonderful panel discussion wherein the 2 speakers were joined by Engr. Emilio ‘Lilit’ Tumbocon, PMP.
Jess shared about the ‘Project Management Principles we should remember in Construction Projects’. He provided examples of situations in construction with associated problems then solved them by using PM Principles. Jess believes that Project Managers (PMs) should aim to have clearly defined scope at the beginning of the project. There are tools that can be used to objectively quantify the completeness of scope to avoid Scope Creep that can lead to conflicts during construction.

Jommel presented his ‘Construction Project Management Cheat Sheet’ showing a summary of 10 + 2 Knowledge Areas in Construction with practical tips on managing them. He emphasized the importance of Collaborative Culture (Tulungan di’ Turuan) in order for people to perform well. As PMs, he suggested asking stakeholders ‘how I/we can help with your objectives in this project.

The panel discussion was interesting. It was a good mix of insights coming from contractor, consultant and client-side experiences. Before closing the program, Lilit shared valuable lessons he learned coming from the book of Stephen Covey - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
